Hello and welcome to another exciting year at Monaco Elementary! I am so happy to be Monaco's new music teacher and we are already having lots of fun in the music room! In all grade levels, we have been working on classroom rituals and routines, pre-assessing skills, and diving in to our first music units. Students in 3rd grade will begin reviewing rhythms and learning how to play the drum set and the "Back Beat" on body percussion. They will then, quickly transition to Ukulele this fall and we will be working on a reward system called "Rainbow Ukulele" where students can earn colored beads for their progress. Every student will have a ukulele to play at school, but if you would like to purchase one for home, please follow this link. 4th and 5th grades will be starting a Hip Hop Basics unit where we are building our CONFIDENCE by cheering on our classmates who perform in front of their peers, practicing BEATS on our body drum set and the two classroom drum sets, and starting to work on LYRICS and FLOW with freestyle rapping. They will culminate the unit at the end of the quarter by writing an original Hip Hop song.
This year, students in music will be graded on three categories: Participation (40%), Classwork(20%), and Assessment (40%). The participation grade consists of a 5-point daily grade average which I will post in Infinite Campus weekly. Classwork and Assessments will be posted individually as soon as I have them graded.
Thank you for welcoming me to Monaco and I look forward to working more with your family and your kids!
